In 2020, Geo Soctomah Neptune was selected to the Indian Township School Board, where they have served since. They are the first transgender, non-binary, two-spirit person elected in Maine. 
 
Per “Pink News,” by serving on the school board, they want to “increase student and teacher access to Passamaquoddy culture and ceremonial teachings, and work towards revitalising the native language.”
 
They are a Passamaquoddy basket maker, model, educator, activist, and storyteller. They have been making baskets since they were four years old.
