Kamala Divi Harris is the first in many categories: Black woman to be elected district attorney in California history, woman to be California's attorney general, Indian American senator, and Black woman and Asian American vice president of the United States of American. Her motto is "You may be the first, but make sure you're not the last." Harris' first name means "lotus," which symbolizes women's empowerment. 
 
The substrate for this artwork is a kitchen door. Aside from keeping with my ethos to keep usable items out of landfills, this door is symbolic of the entries Harris has made for many minorities and women in government.
